Housing affordability impacts everyone; seniors who want to age-in-community, young adults looking to return to the county they grew up in, teachers and firefighters who serve their communities, grocery and restaurant workers who provide services, and everyone in between.
Housing prices have been steadily rising in Chester County, up to $525,000 in 2024, causing renters to be housing cost burdened (paying more than 30% of their income on rent), and pricing out those who wish to purchase a home.
Meanwhile, fewer people are living in each unit, requiring a greater amount of new units to be built. Addressing these challenges is no easy task, and will necessitate collaboration between multiple public agencies, organizations, developers, and citizens.

The A+ Homes initiative provides information about how a range of housing types can exist within established communities. Many neighborhoods already contain a variety of housing styles, and the brochure explains how smaller homes, townhomes, and accessory units can meet changing needs while maintaining neighborhood character.
